Engineering solutions and structural support for key infrastructure projects across Malawi.
The site was accessible only during daylight hours. Bridge girders measuring up to 18 metres required careful logistics planning for transport and handling with limited crane access from the river bank.
All main girders were fabricated in 9-metre spliced sections for road transport and site-joined using high-strength bolted splice connections. A purpose-built launching frame was used to slide girders across the span from one bank, eliminating mid-span propping.
The bridge was structurally complete within the 20-week contract. Load testing was carried out by an independent structural engineer and the bridge was opened on the contracted date, with all quality records and as-built drawings delivered.
